Canada Education Savings Grant (CESG)

Federal match of 20% on the first $2,500 contributed per beneficiary per year. Lifetime maximum $7,200 per beneficiary. Match paid directly into the RESP.

Eligibility

  • Beneficiary under age 18 (age 17 special rules apply)
  • Beneficiary has a Canadian SIN
  • RESP provider must submit required forms

Limits and rules

  • Annual match: $500 on first $2,500 contribution
  • Lifetime match per beneficiary: $7,200
  • Unused room carries forward; catch-up limited to one extra year of match per year ($1,000 max in a catch-up year)
