EI Maternity Benefits

Up to 15 weeks of benefits for the biological mother only, starting as early as 12 weeks before expected birth date. 55% of insurable earnings up to the 2026 cap.

Eligibility

  • Biological mother (adoptive parents do not qualify for maternity)
  • 600+ insured hours of work in the past 52 weeks
  • Weekly earnings decreased by 40%+ due to pregnancy

Limits and rules

  • Maximum 15 weeks
  • 55% of insurable earnings, capped at ~$695/week in 2026
  • Can start as early as 12 weeks before due date
